Alan Looney, Managing Director, discusses how NCC has assisted in the fight against COVID-19
At NCC we have been at the forefront of sourcing chemicals, medical polymers, as well as food ingredients for over 50 years. The current pandemic to my mind is probably one of the biggest challenges that as a business we have had to confront. Not only have we had to change the way we work, with the majority of our diligent staff working from home (like many other companies), but in addition it has been particularly difficult at times to overcome the supply chain obstacles to source and supply what our customers require.
Sourcing challenges
As probably most people are aware, many raw materials are manufactured in China and India. Output from these countries in particular, has dramatically fluctuated in the last few months due to restrictions among other challenges. I am proud to say that at NCC we have been able to dig deep and in the majority of cases source what our customers have required. In addition, I have found solace knowing that some of the products we’ve been providing customers are directly helping in the battle against COVID-19.
The fight against COVID-19
We are proud of the support we have given to our pharmaceutical partners, who have been tirelessly working on developing a successful vaccines and treatments. We have also provided support to other industries as well. For example, when many distilleries in Ireland adapted their product lines to produce hand wash sanitiser, we were able to provide ethanol, and other constituents.
Regardless if a vaccine is found sooner rather than later, the road to global recovery will probably take longer than most of us expect. One thing is for sure, the future of how business will be conducted, as well as our personal day to day lives will be impacted by this pandemic for a considerable amount of time to come. On reflection since this pandemic commenced, it has highlighted to me the value of the services and products that we provide for our customers and in turn the communities that we live in.
